Matador Tyres
A number of Matador tyres fitted by Swift to their 2007 model year (Sep 06 - Aug 07) caravans have been found to have defects. These are mainly cosmetic (sidewall bulges in a regular pattern) but some tyres have developed sidewall cracks indicating premature failure of the rubber compound (see below). Swift has written to the owners of these vans and replacement tyres have been fitted under warranty.
However one or two affected owners tell us they have not received such a letter so, if your caravan is of 2007 model year manufacture, it is worth checking the tyres for any signs of defects. If you believe the tyres may be faulty please contact the dealer who supplied your caravan for advice.
Tyres that may be be affected include:-
Matador Master MPS 310 Dot NosJ3/J2 1906 175R 14 C 99/98
Matador Stella MP15 175/65 R14 86T Code 029027
Matador MP42 Elite 195/70R 14 96S DOT nos 40/05 to 46/05
The pictures below show the sidewall cracks that can develop. Click to enlarge.
The problem has apparently been traced to the use of an inappropriate anti-ozonate compound in the formulation of the rubber. Anti-ozonates help to prevent the rubber from degrading due to the effects of the atmosphere, sunlight etc.
Matador tyres are made in Slovakia by Matador a.s. The company has a history going back to 1905. |
