Alko Hitchlock Warning

Do you have an Alko hitchlock?

Was it supplied with a red safety 'ball' to prevent anything being inserted the hitch head?

The chances are that, if you bought before April 2002, the answer will be 'no'.

The problem is that caravan thieves have discovered that they can place the locked hitch head onto a towball and hold it in place with rope so they can drive off with your van.

This happened to one of our members recently. Fortunately a neighbour realised the van was being stolen and gave chase. After a few hundred yards the van dropped off the tow ball and the thieves drove off at high speed as the neighbour approached.

Realising this inherent weakness Alko have supplied a red safety 'ball' with all hitchlocks sold since April 2002. The device is inserted before the lock is applied and the triangle hanging underneath warns of its presence.

If you have an Alko hitchlock without a red ball you are strongly recommended to get one. They can be purchased for around £3 from accessory shops or direct from Alko UK (tel 01926 818500). The Alko part number is 641255 (previously 247104)
